The name Kanonkop is derived from a hillock (kop) on the Simonsberg mountain above the wine estate from where, during the 17th and 18th centuries, a cannon (kanon) was fired to announce the arrival of sailing ships entering Table Bay.
The first wines bearing the Kanonkop label were produced in 1973.
The benchmark of quality Pinotage, produced by Kanonkop wine Estate since 1973, the indigenous grape variety from South Africa.
Taste: The palate is sultry and luxurious, with densely packed flavours of berry compote, wild bramble, plum tart and spicy Christmas cake. Ripe tannins are beautifully intertwined between the layers of fruit, adding a dense and broad texture to the wine. The subtle spicy tones and plush black cherry flavours on the lingering finish completes a very elegant and age-worthy wine.
Appearance: Bright red with purple hue.
Aroma: Offering vibrant aromas of blueberries, ripe plums, black cherries, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose.
Grape variety: Pinotage
